In a small upstate Christian School, Droat College, in Northwestern Iowa, presidential candidate challenged a student’s concern about a December 2009 Harvard University Study appearing in the American Journal of Public Health, that suggested that 45,000 Americans died each year as a result of a lack of insurance coverage.
"With all due respect Sen. Santorum, I don't think God appreciates the fact that we have 50-100 thousand uninsured Americans dying due to a lack of healthcare every year," said Ryan Walters
The candidate held his ground and forcefully underscored that those 45,000 deaths were their own fault. He said that it was poor judgment on the part of the newly dead.
"And they don't go to the emergency room or they don't go to the doctor when they need to. And it's not the fault of the government for not providing some sort of universal benefit."
Just look after yourself and get proper treatment and you are less likely to die. What has health insurance got to do with it? What indeed? Remember Marie Antoinette, when asked what the people of Paris were to do without bread?
“Why let them eat cake.”
