It was to say the least startling to watch the Utube video of Rep. Michele Bachmann holding forth in another otherworldly tirade against “Obamacare” in Webster City, Iowa. It was even more scary to see the audience sitting their calmly, politely and acceptingly as if “chewing the cud” while her fantasies poured fourth. This is no joke. She told her audience that a seven foot plus doctor told her that he waited on the phone for 2 hours and 15 minutes with the IRS awaiting for approvals of care for “a little lady in my office,” while patients stacked up in his waiting room.
I hope this seven foot plus doctor will come forward to relate and confirm this story. He should be easily identifiable. How many seven foot plus doctors can there be? First of all, one would want to ask him why he called the IRS? Assuming that the patient is a Medicare patient, her care would be paid for by CMS. Was she enrolled in Medicare in the first place? Did he have a Medicare number? Did he not have a nurse or receptionist that could stay on the line while he treated his other patients? Why not enlist one of the patients in the waiting room to help out while he say the others?
Can you imagine any physician waiting on the phone for 2 hours and 15 minutes for anyone, let alone the IRS? She did not identify how Obamacare was implicated in this issue.
Perhaps Rep. Bachman conflated stories or confused historical facts as she is want to do. (i.e. John Quincy Adams was a founding father of the country and all the founding fathers fought against slavery). Maybe she saw the recent headline “Seven Foot Doctors Sue Hospital,” a podiatrist privileges case and it sparked some dormant ganglia operating in her brain. Could there have been several seven foot doctors who sued the hospital? Maybe there was a doctor with seven feet who couldn’t obtain a tax deduction for the “little lady” who darned his extra socks and polished his extra shoes (just a mistake in grammar). Perhaps this is a turn on “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” (i.e. Michele Bachmann and the Seven Foot Doctors. What ever happened to the twelve year old girl who wanted debate the representative on basic civics and American History? The challenge appears to have been ignored. That would be a debate worth watching.
